How to Plant an Aluminum Plant

What is an Aluminum Plant?

An aluminum plant is an evergreen perennial flowering plant that is native to tropical climates. It is characterized by its silver, bell-shaped flowers. This plant is also known for its glossy, dark green leaves. Aluminum plants are popular houseplants because of their low maintenance requirements and thick foliage which can help to purify the air.

Choosing a Location

When choosing a location for your aluminum plant, make sure that it is in a spot that receives indirect sunlight and is not in a drafty area. It should also be placed in an area that is not too hot or too cold. The ideal temperature for the aluminum plant is between 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Preparing the Soil

Fill the pot 3/4 of the way with a potting soil that is designed for indoor plants. Make sure to moisten the soil before planting the aluminum plant. Add a layer of peat moss to the top of the soil if the soil is very compacted. This will help to loosen the soil and promote drainage.

Planting the Aluminum Plant

When planting the aluminum plant, make sure that the root ball is firmly planted in the soil and that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface. Gently firm the soil around the root ball to help the plant stay in place.

Care Instructions

Once the aluminum plant is planted, be sure to keep the soil lightly moist but not soggy. The aluminum plant does not like to be overwatered. Keep the soil evenly moist by misting the leaves with water periodically. Fertilize the aluminum plant every two weeks with a half-strength solution of a liquid fertilizer. If you notice that the leaves are turning yellow, this is an indication that the plant is not getting enough light. Move the plant to a spot with more indirect sunlight.
